Weekly Discussions
Each week, members will receive background information regarding a chosen economic topic. (Please sign-up to receive OΔE email alerts on the homepage.) Members are to read the information prior to attending the discussion in order to maximize discussion content. Discussions are currently scheduled for Thursday nights at from 7 – 9pm in GR 3.604. If you have a topic you'd like to discuss or any background information you'd like considered, please submit it to economics.forum@gmail.com.
Formal Debates
On the last Thursday of September and October we will have a formal debate night during which 2 students (or 2 groups of students depending on interest) will argue each side of a proposed economic question. With the assistance of a faculty moderator, the debate will follow a formal structure including opening and closing arguments as well as timed opportunities for rebuttals. If you're interested in participating, please contact Bill Kitchens, Vice President.
Research Spotlight/Workshop
Once each semester we will get together to discuss the current research of UT Dallas students and faculty. Students will also receive information and resources to assist them in their own research.
Monthly General Information Meetings
For our first semester, these meetings will serve as recruitment meetings to cover organizational information for our prospective members. Starting in the spring, these meetings will be a general what's-going-on-in-the-group meeting.
Socials
Initially, we will meet informally at the Pub for our socials. This time is specifically for socializing and networking; there will be no “shoptalk.”
As opportunities arise, we will organize off-campus events in order to experience economics in real-life settings (away from the academic setting). For example, this summer the officers visited an economic art exhibit, The Non-Profit Margin, in the heart of downtown Dallas.
